Billie Eilish's 3D Concert Film Nears Debut

Billie Eilish's 3D concert film Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) arrives in theaters May 8, closing a gap between stadium tour and cinema that feels increasingly native to her generation. Co-directed with James Cameron, the film documents performances from her Manchester tour dates, shot with the technical ambition you'd expect from someone who built Pandora.

Originally slated for March 20, the release was delayed to "refine the cut" and integrate new 3D technology, a sign that both directors are treating this as more than a livestream repackage. The film will premiere at LA's historic Village Theatre on May 6, a venue that has hosted premieres for over 90 years—an old-school rollout for a decidedly contemporary artist.

Eilish continues to blur the line between pop spectacle and intimate confession, and this project suggests she's interested in how cinema can preserve that tension. Whether the 3D gimmick serves the music or just the marketing remains to be seen.
